The Tathāgata told Mahāmati: It is not that through the causes and conditions of a creator posited by the heterodox one obtains the permanent and inconceivable, because their cause and its intrinsic characteristics are unestablished. Thus the Śūraṅgama Sūtra states: "To take the mind of arising and ceasing as the causal ground of practice and seek the non-arising and non-ceasing of the Buddha Vehicle is utterly impossible."
