佛說盂蘭盆經疏 1.3

稽首三界主，大孝釋迦尊。累劫報親恩，積因成正覺。將永錫眾類，應請演斯經。欲使背恩人，咸能酬罔極。我今所讚述，願眾聖冥加。自他存歿親，離苦常安樂。

I bow my head to the Lord of the Triple World, / The Greatly Filial Śākya Honored One. / Repaying his parents' grace through repeated kalpas, / Accumulating causes to accomplish perfect enlightenment. / About to bestow this forever upon the multitude of beings, / In response to a request he expounded this sūtra. / Wishing to cause those who turn their backs on grace / All to be able to repay that which has no limit. / For that which I now praise and expound, / I pray for the dark assistance of the assembly of sages. / May the parents, living and deceased, of myself and others, / Be free from suffering and ever at ease and happy.
