二發起序（六）。發起者，此經既以孝順拔苦為宗，故託救母之緣而為發起。文分為六：第一目連道滿、第二知恩欲酬、第三攀慕遍尋、第四得見所在、第五痛哭往救、第六惡習現前。

Second, the initiating introduction (in six parts). As for 'initiating': since this sūtra takes filial compliance and the relief of suffering as its central doctrine, it relies on the occasion of rescuing the mother to initiate it. The text is divided into six: 1. Maudgalyāyana's attainment of the Way; 2. Knowing kindness and wishing to repay it; 3. Yearning and searching everywhere; 4. Seeing her location; 5. Weeping bitterly and going to rescue her; 6. Evil habits manifesting.
