Objects transform according to the mind, and fruits are formed dependent on karma. When the cause of hunger has not been removed, how could conditions for satiety arrive? As a ghost, she was torch-mouthed, so when food drew near her mouth it flared up, just as water turns to solid ice, and ice hardens even more near boiling soup. Thus one knows that spiritual power cannot withstand karmic power; to remove hunger, one must first remove stinginess. Therefore, going to feed her with the six superknowledges invited calamity, and arraying the basin with a hundred delicacies brought forth suffering. How momentous is the ripening of karma! It should indeed be contemplated! Now, screening the bowl with her left hand was out of stinginess, fearing others would encroach upon it. Grasping food with her right hand was out of greed to feed herself. With stinginess and greed so fiercely manifesting, how could the inferior condition of food and drink provide relief? Thus it transformed into fire, and she could not eat. The introductory section above is concluded.
