過去諸佛知眾生罪業皆從妄想生起，妄想若息，即無諸惡。故迦葉佛曾作此偈，流傳於後。及釋迦佛因行道，聞此女自悔而誦，故令沙門記之。

The past Buddhas knew that sentient beings' sinful karmas all arise from false thinking; if false thinking ceases, all evils will be gone. Therefore, Kāśyapa Buddha previously composed this verse, which was handed down to posterity. When Śākyamuni Buddha was walking, he heard this girl reproaching herself and reciting it, and thus he told the śramaṇas to remember it.
