Worldly people merely indulge their emotional desires and seek only empty, illusory fame, not worrying about birth and death, and without yearning for the true Way. It is like supreme, wondrous incense burned by someone: although it can be smelled universally far and near, its physical substance is quickly exhausted. It is likewise with the foolish, who vainly yearn for empty fame and lose the truth of the Way; when disaster arrives and imperils themselves, their regret comes too late.
