Question: "'Sūtra' (xiu-duo-luo) and 'scripture' (jing) are merely the difference between Sanskrit and Chinese. Placing both in the title now—is that not redundant?" Answer: "The former refers generally to all divisions of scripture, while the latter designates only this present scripture. Extolling the specific in contrast to the general is therefore not redundant. Just as in the *Great Vaipulya King of Sūtras Sūtra* (*Mahāvaipulya-sūtrarāja-sūtra*), is it not also that the four characters 'King of Sūtras' are general, pointing to all divisions to praise that scripture?"
