This is the fulfillment of time. The meeting of teacher and disciple, and the ultimate completion of preaching and listening, are collectively called "one time". "At one time" distinguishes it from other times. Time is conventionally established in accord with the world. When the Tathāgata expounds a sūtra, the times are immeasurable and cannot be separately enumerated; one word briefly encompasses them, hence it merely says "at one time". As the *Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra* says: "At one time, the Buddha was on the bank of the Ganges," and so forth. Moreover, the divisions and lengths of time in various regions differ, hence it merely says "at one time". If based on our own school, at the very time of preaching and listening, mind and object vanish, principle and wisdom blend, ordinary and sage are as their origin—it is the time when these various dualities are initially unified into one.
