Fully it is *pāramitā*, translated here as 'reached'. Inverted to follow the usage of this land, it should be 'reached the other shore'. This means leaving this shore of saṃsāra, crossing the midstream of afflictions, and reaching the other shore of nirvāṇa. However, all sentient beings are of the characteristic of quiescence and do not cease again; but through delusion and inversion, they falsely see saṃsāra, calling it this shore. If they realize that saṃsāra is originally empty and quiescent, it is called reaching the other shore. Tentatively speaking in terms of overturning the six hindrances, there are briefly six kinds: namely, the nature is free from stinginess, breaking precepts, anger, indolence, distraction, and ignorance; according with the original nature, one practices giving, morality, patience, diligence, concentration, and wisdom. Since they are practiced in accord with the nature, they all reach the other shore. In the *Bodhisambhāra-śāstra*, wisdom is first, because by wisdom the five are completed, and the five assist wisdom. Therefore, that treatise says: 'Being the mother of bodhisattvas, as well as the mother of buddhas. Prajñāpāramitā is the primary provision for enlightenment. Giving, morality, patience, diligence, and concentration, and what is beyond these five, are all subsumed under pāramitā due to the perfection of wisdom.' In the *Awakening of Faith*, it is condensed into five, because śamatha and vipaśyanā rely on each other and samādhi and prajñā are identical. In *Vijñapti-mātra*, it is opened into ten, to assist in remedying the ten obstacles and realizing the ten tathatās. If comprehensively overturning all defilements, there are eighty-four thousand, the meaning of which will be explained below.
