This reveals the activity and function of the dharmas such as tathatā that flow forth above. The bodhisattvas are that which is taught, and tathatā and the rest are that which teaches. That is, tathatā is the principle, the next two are the fruit, and pāramitā is the cause; principle, reality, cause, and fruit can serve as models. In terms of emotional clinging, they seem to be non-existent; but since emotional clinging is originally empty, these are not newly obtained. Those who suddenly awaken to the principle cultivate according to it and can generate understanding in living beings; this is called 'instruction'. Thus the treatise says: 'Cultivating giving and the rest in accordance with the original nature.' The *Nirvāṇa [Sūtra]* also speaks of the buddhas taking the Dharma as their teacher.
