Just as when someone suddenly arrives at a plain or river valley, or enters a settlement, their mind is suddenly bewildered and mistakes east for west. Once one direction is confused, the other three all shift with it; hence it is called 'transposing the directions.' Yet at the very time of confusion, the directions have not actually shifted; when one suddenly wakes and realizes, they are still the original directions. Reflecting back on this confusion, it has no trace whatsoever: it has no place from which it originally came, nor any place to which it now goes.
