Earlier it was asked: what expedient means and gradual steps should be cultivated to enable sentient beings to depart from all illusions forever? Therefore, having finished showing the mental application, the Buddha concludes by answering that one does not employ expedient means and there are no gradual steps; in this way one can depart from all illusions forever, which resolves the text in the question. Merely being able to know that it is illusion is already called departure. Merely attaining departure from illusion is originally enlightenment itself; there are no stages of gradually changing into enlightenment. It is like someone dreaming of sores on their body who asks a doctor seeking medicine; once awake, knowing it was a dream, what further expedient means would they want to employ? If one waits for expedient means and gradual departure through cultivation, that would be a real dharma; how could it be called an illusion? If one clings to it as truly existent, it is still a false calculation; how could it be called cultivation? Hence it is said thus.
