The solid, moist, warm, and mobile are provisionally harmonized. Thus the Mahāratnakūṭa Sūtra says: 'When this body is born, together with the nature of the four great elements of its parents, it forms a kalala body of one category.' If there were only the earth element without the water element, it would be like someone grasping dry roasted flour and ashes, which never harmonize; if there were only the water element without the earth element, it would be like oil and water, having no solid substance and dispersing immediately; if there were only earth and water without the fire element, it would be like a lump of meat in the shade during summer months, which rots away without sunlight; if there were only earth, water, and fire without the wind element, it would not grow. Vimalakīrti also says: 'Because the four great elements unite, it is provisionally named a body; the four great elements have no master, and the body also has no self.' Therefore this sūtra text further breaks down the four great elements, each returning to where it came from.
