眾生若無迷惑顛倒，則無差別之義，故先標此，約之以明證覺差別。迷倒之體即根本無明及三細六麁，《論》中亦約翻此以顯始覺階位。

If sentient beings were without delusion and confusion, then there would be no meaning to differentiation; therefore this is stated first, using it to clarify the differences in realizing enlightenment. The substance of delusion and confusion is fundamental avidyā and the three subtle and six coarse marks; in the *Treatise* [on the Awakening of Faith], this is also overturned to reveal the stages of initial enlightenment.
