Principle and cognition are equally examined, with correct knowledge free from inversion, while internally the discriminative mind makes distinctions among all marks. Here, the ocean-like wisdom is free from thought, and therefore all marks are like empty space. Moreover, the illuminating wisdom is itself free from discriminative thought, just like empty space; this is identical to the Vimalakīrti[-nirdeśa-sūtra's statement that] 'its unobstructed wisdom is not manifold.' It is like a mirror reflecting objects: the mirror itself has no mind. All the above corresponds in the Treatise to 'perfecting expedients, through a single thought of correspondence, they awaken to the mind's initial arising, yet the mind has no initial mark.'
