謂發心修行欲趣佛果，先須了悟身中淨圓覺性以為行本。本即解也，依解而修方為妙行。膏明相賴目足更故，下標本等皆同此矣。

This means that to generate the mind, practice, and wish to proceed toward the Buddha fruit, one must first clearly awaken to the pure, perfect enlightened nature within one's own person as the basis of practice. The basis is understanding; only when practicing based on understanding is it marvelous practice. Oil and flame rely on one another, and eyes and feet assist each other; the below indications of the basis and so forth are all the same as this.
