初舉劣，後不如下顯勝。且如勸得一人、二人持於五戒、十戒，據諸教說，福已甚多。況令爾許億人成就辟支、羅漢，具足六通、八解，永超三界十纏。而乃不如有人暫習圓覺，時中極促，唯一剎那，豈況長時圓修妙觀？愨云：「牛跡巨海，何可校量？」聞此等者聞慧，隨順者思慧，修習者修慧。

First it presents the inferior, and then below "not as good as" it reveals the superior. For instance, encouraging one or two persons to uphold the five precepts or ten precepts, according to the various teachings, already yields immense merit. How much more so causing that many koṭis of persons to accomplish the fruits of pratyekabuddhas and arhats, endowed with the six superknowledges and eight liberations, forever transcending the three realms and the ten fetters! Yet this is still not as good as a person who briefly practices perfect enlightenment for an extremely brief time, only a single kṣaṇa—how much more so perfectly cultivating the wondrous contemplation for a long time? Que says: "How could an ox's footprint and the vast ocean be compared?" "Hearing this" and so on is the wisdom born of hearing; "according with" is the wisdom born of reflection; "cultivating" is the wisdom born of cultivation.
