然諸聖人形類不定，得與不得內證在心，何以辨他未得未證？故觀心行以驗真虛。夫聖人用心，他己無二。見他勝進，或法教流行，念念喜歡，必能隨順。自驗內心如此，或即證悟不虛。若自覺己衰他盛則嫉、己盛他衰則喜，縱令深解妙境，但是心之所緣，勿錯認之，謂得謂證。

However, the appearances of the holy ones are not fixed, and attainment or non-attainment is an internal realization in the mind; how can one distinguish another's non-attainment and non-realization? Therefore, one examines the mental activities to verify truth or falsehood. Now, the holy ones employ their minds without duality between other and self. Seeing another's superior advancement, or the dissemination of the Dharma teachings, in thought after thought they rejoice and are sure to accord with it. If one tests one's own inner mind and finds it to be like this, perhaps one's awakening and realization are not false. If one consciously feels jealous when oneself declines and another flourishes, or feels joy when oneself flourishes and another declines, even if one profoundly understands the marvelous realm, it is merely an object of the mind. Do not mistakenly identify it and claim to have attained and realized.
