2.98

若遇邪師教者，則於人、法二我極為堅執，名之為深。若遇二乘人說人空理，於法雖未離愚，於人已無堅執，對前為淺。若遇菩薩及佛，深淺相望可知。

If one encounters the teachings of false teachers, one clings extremely firmly to the two selves of person and phenomena, which is called 'deep.' If one encounters persons of the two vehicles who teach the principle of the emptiness of persons, although they have not yet departed from ignorance regarding phenomena, they have no firm clinging regarding persons, which is 'shallow' compared to the former. If one encounters bodhisattvas and buddhas, their relative depths can be known by comparison.
