Next is the mantra of the vidyārāja Trailokyavijaya. All are from Vairocana Tathāgata abiding in the adhiṣṭhāna-samādhi of observing the peak of the Dharma banner, as explained in the initial "Introductory Chapter." The Tathāgata spoke these two vidyās, both of which are samādhis of that Dharma Buddha, in order to guard and increase the practitioner from their initial arousal of the bodhicitta, allowing them to bring about the perfection of the Buddha fruit, never retrogressing and never falling into wrong paths—this is Acala Vidyārāja. To subjugate difficult-to-tame sentient beings of the world—this is Trailokyavijaya Vidyārāja. They are spoken in succession. As for the so-called "three worlds," "world" refers to greed, anger, and delusion; subjugating these three poisons is called "subjugating the three worlds." Furthermore, because of greed in the past, one now receives this body of retribution for greed, and again produces karma of greed to receive future retribution. It is likewise for all three poisons; this is called "subjugating the three worlds." Furthermore, the "three worlds" refers to the triple realm, meaning that Vairocana Tathāgata, starting from the Peak of Existence down to the lowest planes, transformed successively from top to bottom in every heavenly abode, manifesting as masters of great devas with immeasurable retinues. Now, surpassing those devas by hundreds of thousands of millions of times, they felt unprecedented fear, wondering what sentient being could surpass them. Even up to subjugating them with the Dharma, he descended in succession. Because he is able to subjugate the lords of the three realms, he is called the vidyārāja Trailokyavijaya.
