如上說聲聞緣覺，以句法為真言。今以一字者，此是宗極之要。即彼極修行住處，故用一字也。
As explained above, śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas take phrases of dharmas as mantras. Now using a single syllable is the essential purport of the doctrine. That is the ultimate abode of practice, hence a single syllable is used.
