Next is the mantra of the Ḍākinīs. In the world, there are those who perform this sorcery. It is also an autonomous sorcery by which one is able to know when a person is about to die; they know it six months in advance. Having known it, they immediately perform the rite, extract the person's heart, and eat it. Why is this so? In the human body there is yellow bile, the so-called 'human bezoar,' just as cattle have bezoars. If one can eat it, one can attain extremely great accomplishments, traveling around the four continents in a single day, achieving whatever one wishes, and also being able to cure or afflict people in various ways. If there is someone they dislike, they afflict them with sorcery, causing them severe illness and suffering. However, that technique cannot directly kill a person; it must rely on their own calculated methods. When a person is about to die, they know it six months before. Having known it, they extract their heart by sorcery. Although they extract their heart, by virtue of their technique they must substitute it with another substance, so that the person's life does not end immediately, failing only when the appointed time of death arrives. These are mostly Yakṣas of Maheśvara; spoken of among worldly people as extremely great, they belong to Mahākāla, the so-called Great Black Deity. Vairocana, through the gateway of subduing the three times, wished to eliminate them, and so transformed into Mahākāla. Surpassing them in immeasurable manifestations, his body smeared with ashes, in the wilderness he used his techniques to summon all the Ḍākinīs who possessed accomplishments in methods and moved through the air or trod on water without hindrance, and rebuked them, saying: 'Because you constantly devour human beings, I shall now eat you as well.' He then swallowed and devoured them, yet did not let them die. Having subdued them, he released them and commanded them all to abstain from meat. They said to the Buddha: 'We currently survive entirely by eating meat. How shall we sustain ourselves now?' The Buddha said: 'I permit you to eat the hearts of dead people.' They said: 'When a person is about to die, the great Yakṣas and others, knowing that their life is exhausted, vie with one another to eat them. How can we obtain them?' The Buddha said: 'I will explain to you the mantra method and mudrā. Six months before death, you will be able to know it. Having known it, protect them with the method so that other terrifying beings cannot harm them; when their life is exhausted, I permit you to take and eat them.' In this way, he gradually guided them to enter the path; therefore, there is this mantra.
