10.56

以上纈利字為心也。纈唎是攝召之義，亦是召請之義。有訶字是行，有囉字是離塵垢，加上畫是三昧義也。兩點在傍即同涅槃，此是具足諸佛功德，願我亦然也。次吽字是恐怖義。為速滿此諸佛功德，以牢強轉進離垢三昧同於涅槃之行，大怖一切諸魔，皆令退散也。

The above takes the syllable *hrīḥ* as its heart. *Hrīḥ* has the meaning of gathering and summoning, and also the meaning of invoking. Containing the syllable *ha*, it is practice; containing the syllable *ra*, it is departure from dust and defilement; adding the upper stroke, it has the meaning of samādhi. The two dots on the side are identical to nirvāṇa; this means possessing all the merit of the buddhas, with the wish: 'May I also be likewise.' Next, the syllable *hūṃ* has the meaning of terrification. In order to quickly fulfill this merit of all buddhas, through the practice of firmly advancing in the undefiled samādhi identical to nirvāṇa, it greatly terrifies all māras, causing them all to retreat and disperse.
