13.150

此意言尊本願除一切苦，今當憶念也。然此菩薩名悲念者，意由未盡。其意者言，此菩薩繫屬於悲也。如人被他執持故不得自在，此菩薩身心繫屬於悲，為悲所持故不得自在也。又如人役屬於王不得自在，此菩薩亦爾，常為悲所牽不得自在。猶此義故，當念本願救一切眾生耳。

The intention here is to say: 'The noble one's original vow dispels all suffering; now he should be mindful of it.' Yet that this bodhisattva is named Karuṇāmṛdita ('Mindful of Compassion') still has unexhausted meaning. Its meaning is that this bodhisattva is bound to compassion. Just as a person seized by another is not independent, so this bodhisattva's body and mind are bound to compassion and seized by compassion, thus not independent. Furthermore, just as a person in service to a king is not independent, so is this bodhisattva: constantly drawn by compassion, he is not independent. Through this meaning, he should be mindful of his original vow to rescue all sentient beings.
