The meaning here is: "Equal" means the ultimate equality of all dharmas. "Advancing" has the meaning of "gone," referring to the Buddha being the Sugata who realized correct awakening. Yet in this equal dharmadhātu there is no walking and no arriving; how could there be coming or going? Next it explains: because he can leave defilement and remove all obstacles, that is the meaning of superior advancement. Advancing without walking is the foremost Sugata. Through such advancement, one is able to accomplish the birth of dharma, which means being born into the Buddha's family from the equal dharmatā. Therefore it next says, "the greatest among the great," which is the great emptiness within the equal and unimpeded realization; great emptiness is the Buddha's realm. Furthermore, this mantra takes the syllable HA as its essence. HA means joy, which refers to the cultivation of the practicing bodhisattva. If sentient beings uphold, recite, or contemplate through this Dharma gateway, they will become equal to the gateway of Samantabhadra, and before long will attain the sovereign power of the samādhi of the realm of the Buddha's adornments.
