Twenty-sixth: regarding "What is the guarding mind? It means: 'Only this mind is real, other minds are unreal'": just as worldly people, to protect their own bodies, wealth, and the like, go as far as building surrounding walls and multiple storeys to guard in various ways, not letting themselves be harmed by others. This mind is also like this: constantly guarding body and mind, even like a tortoise hiding its six limbs, not letting external sense objects cause harm. It asserts that only this practice is real, and that all other active undertakings are unreal. Those who study the śrāvaka [vehicle] mostly give rise to this mind. Taking the concurrent guarding of others as the antidote. Furthermore, there are people who protect their own understanding, unwilling to let it be harmed by others' various differing arguments, saying that all other views are unreal; this is also [the guarding mind].
