The thirtieth: "What is the garuḍa mind? It is following the way of relying on companions and wings." This bird always relies on its two wings supporting its body to fly at will and achieve great momentum; if it were missing just one feather, it would be powerless. This mind is also like this: it constantly thinks of gathering many companions and wings to assist one another in accomplishing tasks. Furthermore, it generates the aspiration only following what others do, unable to advance alone. For instance, seeing another person doing good, it thinks: "If that person can do it, why should I not?" Recollecting the courageous bodhicitta—like a lion king who relies on no companions—serves as its antidote.
