First, as for setting forth the general meaning: the ultimate principle of the true nature is free from speech and cut off from forms; yet adapting to spiritual capacities, it manifests without marks, not being unmanifest—namely, the gates such as the letter A wonderfully illuminate its principle. Now, as for this scripture, the principle is contained within the words, while its meaning transcends beyond the text. Therefore, by the Tathāgata's divine power of adhiṣṭhāna, it corresponds with secret mudrās and guides with mantras. Thus, if one does not receive instruction from a master, one is prohibited from entering its gate; to those who are not the right vessels, its reckless transmission is forbidden; and those who have not yet undergone abhiṣeka are forbidden to hear it rashly. If one is able to see, hear, and bow one's head to it, sins as numerous as the sands of the Ganges will be eradicated; if one practices it as expounded, an ocean of virtues will gather in one's person.
