阿難已知如來世尊訶須菩提及大迦葉，為阿羅漢，心不均平。欽仰如來開闡無遮，度諸疑謗。

"Ānanda already knew that the Tathāgata, the World-Honoured One, had reproved Subhūti and Mahākāśyapa for being arhats whose minds were not impartial. Admiring and looking up to the Tathāgata's opening and expounding of the unhindered [giving], he sought to save them from all doubts and slanders.
