That the Buddhas share the same path and that escaping suffering and attaining bliss are entirely due to the straightforward mind has two aspects: 1. Uttering words without falsehood, as in the bodhimaṇḍa of the Vimalakīrtinirdeśa exhorted in this passage; 2. The mind directed toward the principle having no divergent paths, which is the 'straightforward mind' among the three minds in the Awakening of Faith. Thus that treatise states: 'The first is the straightforward mind, because it correctly contemplates the dharma of tathatā.' This is the foundation of the two practices. The intention of this sūtra now requires both: beginning with uttering words without delusion, and ending with the complete cessation of thought directed toward the principle; only then is it the shared path of the ten directions.
