Discerning the soil from the sprout, speech is straightforward when the mind is straightforward; if it were contrary to this, the fault would be no small matter. As a later passage of the sūtra states: 'If one commits great falsehood, one's samādhi will not be pure; one will become a demon of affection and views, and lose the seed of the Tathāgata. If monks have minds like a straight lute-string, being real and true in everything, and enter samādhi, they will forever be free from demonic affairs; I seal such people as accomplishing the unexcelled enlightenment of a bodhisattva.' Bringing forth the aspiration is called the 'beginning'; ultimate realization is called the 'end.' Being able to transcend in the snap of a finger, there are no devious aspects.
