When wishing to ask a question, they arise from their seats: to formally request instruction one arises, and when changing the topic one arises; when about to receive and listen, one must sit down again. Sūtras have 'withdrew to sit at one side', and the Confucians have 'sit, and I shall speak with you'; both cause deportment to be collected so that the Dharma is received without error. Speaking of 'arising from the seat' means arising from the substance of dharmic emptiness to engage in the compassionate activity of saving [others].
