The World-Honoured One manifested the appearance of reprimand because the fault was deep. Ānanda leaped up in alarm and left his seat because his clinging was heavy. That which governs feelings is universally called "my mind"; now being suddenly rebuked, who would not be startled? "Tut" (咄) is a sound of rebuke. *Jue* (矍, read *jufu*) is the appearance of leaping up quickly.
