The nature of the four great elements cannot in reality produce the permanently abiding fruit; grasping them as capable of producing it is termed 'the attachment to arising from the non-arising.' 'Bewilderment of mind following external objects' means losing sight of what is seen only by mind and conforming to each worship and service in pursuit of permanence; since both cause and fruit are false, this results in false seeking and false expectation.
