Language
Classical Chinese

2.44

Jīva is translated here as 'life.' The custom in Western regions is to worship a deva of longevity; when a child is born and reaches three years of age, they visit that shrine to give thanks for having obtained the child. Inquiring about seeing in terms of years here is intended to clarify that while years change, seeing does not change.
