If he defends [his position] by saying: 'Although this nature of my seeing does not join with darkness, that does not prevent it from seeing darkness—what fault is there in this?' Therefore this [text] cites: 'If when seeing darkness it does not join with darkness,' and immediately refutes it: 'Then one that joins with light ought not to see light.' If one concedes that there is seeing without joining, then joining must entail no seeing. How then could one say that seeing joins with light, and clearly knows light and not darkness? Hence we know that seeing light does not have the meaning of joining. Since a blended or joined nature of seeing cannot be established, the bodhi-realizing mind existing on account of blending and joining is hereby refuted.
