梵云塞健陀，此云蘊，古翻為陰。蘊是積聚，陰是蓋覆，積聚有為，蓋覆真性。此陰有五，攝有為盡。前文總標乃至五陰等皆如來藏，今此別徵，逐科推檢，令知虛妄本非因緣及自然有，元是藏體妙真如性。

In Sanskrit, skandha; here translated as aggregate (yun), formerly translated as shade (yin). 'Aggregate' means accumulation, and 'shade' means covering: accumulating conditioned dharmas and covering the true nature. There are five of these aggregates, completely subsuming conditioned dharmas. The preceding text generally indicated that up to the five aggregates and so forth are all the tathāgatagarbha; now this specifically questions and examines category by category, enabling one to know that the false fundamentally does not exist due to causes and conditions or spontaneous nature, but is originally the wondrous nature of tathatā of the garbha substance.
