2.81

隨者，猶任從也。任汝心中諦審觀察，佛若是倒，汝名佛身何處是倒？汝若是倒，汝名自身何處名倒。此則令其識顛倒處也。名（去聲）字，猶詺目也，古人於此作泯相解，遂令下經正辨顛倒血脈不貫，便成孤起。既絕正倒，如來何故却說顛倒？學者請詳，無見榮古。

"Following" (隨) means to allow or let. Let your mind carefully examine and observe: if the Buddha is inverted, where in what you designate as the Buddha's body is it inverted? If you are inverted, where in what you designate as your own body is it termed inverted? This is to make him recognize where inversion lies. "Designate" (名字, here read in the departing tone) means to name or label. Ancient commentators interpreted this as an annihilation of characteristics (泯相), which caused the subsequent text's direct analysis of inversion to lose its coherence, becoming an isolated passage. Since upright and inverted would both be eliminated, why would the Tathāgata nevertheless speak of inversion? Students should examine this closely and not uncritically extol the ancients.
