「阿難！汝更聽此祇陀園中食辦擊鼓，眾集撞鐘，鐘鼓音聲前後相續，於意云何？此等為是聲來耳邊？耳往聲處？」

"Ānanda, you listen further in this Jeta Grove: the drum is beaten when the meal is ready, and the bell is struck when the assembly gathers, the sounds of bell and drum succeeding one another before and after. What do you think in your mind? Do these mean that sound comes to the ear's side, or does the ear go to the sound's place?"
