「阿難！若復此聲來於耳邊，如我乞食室羅筏城，在祇陀林則無有我，此聲必來阿難耳處，目連、迦葉應不俱聞，何況其中一千二百五十沙門，一聞鐘聲同來食處。」

"Ānanda, if this sound came to the ear's side, it would be like me begging for food in the city of Śrāvastī: being in the Jeta Grove, I would not be there; this sound would necessarily come to Ānanda's ear, and Maudgalyāyana and Kāśyapa should not hear it together, let alone the one thousand two hundred and fifty śramaṇas within it, who upon hearing the bell sound all together come to the dining place."
