"Why is this? If it came from the sweet and the bitter, then with the bland the awareness would be destroyed; how could it know the bland? If it emerged from the bland, with sweetness the awareness would vanish; how again could it know the two marks of sweet and bitter? If it arose from the tongue, there would definitely be no sweet, bland, or bitter dust. This root of knowing tastes would fundamentally lack an intrinsic nature. If it emerged from space, empty space would taste itself, and it would not be your mouth that knows. Furthermore, if space knows of itself, what does that have to do with your entrance?"
