The above collectively indicates arising and cessation, concluding to form the mind faculty. The objects manifested in a dream exist because of sleep; stripped of substance, they are false. Once awakened from sleep, failing to comprehend their false existence, inspecting and recollecting them, one takes them to be real: this is called inverted arising, abiding, alteration, and cessation. Waking, sleeping, recollecting, and forgetting are all arising and cessation. It is also thus in the Dharma: the moving mind manifesting objects is already unreal; the phenomenal consciousness does not understand and sees the objects as truly existent, which is called inversion. Objects and discriminations replace one another before and after, shifting from moment to moment: this is called arising, abiding, alteration, and cessation. Inspecting this arising and cessation wholly returns to the mind faculty, perfuming continuously and discriminating from moment to moment; this is termed the mind faculty. The discriminating mind as subject and the discriminated objects as object are both fatigued marks of ignorance within the nature of awareness.
