「若此六根決定成六，如我今會與汝宣揚微妙法門，汝之六根誰來領受？」阿難言：「我用耳聞。」佛言：「汝耳自聞，何關身口？口來問義、身起欽承？」

"If these six faculties are definitively six, then as I now proclaim the subtle and wondrous Dharma door in this assembly for you, which of your six faculties comes to receive it?" Ānanda said: "I use my ears to hear." The Buddha said: "Your ears hear by themselves; what does that have to do with your body and mouth, such that the mouth comes to inquire into the meaning and the body rises to show reverent reception?"
