「由生、滅等二種相續，於妙圓中粘湛發知，知精映法，攬法成根，根元目為清淨四大，因名意思。如幽室見，浮根四塵流逸奔法。」

"Due to the two kinds of mutual continuity, such as arising and ceasing, within the wondrously perfect [nature] it adheres to the still clarity and generates cognition. The essence of cognition reflects upon dharmas, gathering dharmas to become a faculty. The root of the faculty is designated as the pure four great elements, and is therefore named the mental faculty. Resembling seeing in a dark chamber, the four dusts of the floating faculty drift out and rush after dharmas."
