如來又勅羅睺擊鍾，問阿難言：「爾今聲不？」阿難、大眾俱言：「有聲。」少選聲消，佛又問言：「爾今聲不？」阿難、大眾答言：「無聲。」有頃，羅睺更來撞鍾，佛又問言：「爾今聲不？」阿難、大眾俱言：「有聲。」

The Tathāgata again commanded Rāhula to strike the bell, and asked Ānanda, saying: "Do you now [hear a] sound or not?" Ānanda and the great assembly all said: "There is sound." After a short while the sound subsided, and the Buddha again asked, saying: "Do you now [hear a] sound or not?" Ānanda and the great assembly answered, saying: "There is no sound." After an interval, Rāhula came again and struck the bell, and the Buddha again asked, saying: "Do you now [hear a] sound or not?" Ānanda and the great assembly all said: "There is sound."
