In this way, the three marks mutually disturb and confuse one another, their contrast and opposition never resting, and thus fatigue ensues—just as when eyes are fatigued, wildly dancing flowers appear. The three marks, being false, defile the true nature, and therefore are called 'dusts'. They pollute the pure substance and cause it to lose its clarity and cleanliness, and therefore are called 'turbidity'. The coarse and subtle names and marks of turbidity have five layers, as will be extensively analyzed below; all have these three as their root.
