Contemplating the cause of flavor—from where does it arise? Empty or existent, body or mind, whether identical or separate, none of them is the place of arising. 'Realized and knew' means contemplating and observing. Because there is no place of arising, the dust of flavor is tranquil, conceptualization immediately ceases, and subject and object both vanish; both entirely leave no trace, being only the single flavor of pure, precious awareness. Hence they say 'we thereby awakened,' which is to realize the forbearance of non-arising dharmas.
