跋陀婆羅，云賢護。准《法華》說，威音王佛有二萬億，相繼出世。此人初佛像法之中，為上慢者，毀常不輕，由是墮獄經於千劫，罪畢得出，值後威音出家獲悟也。隨例入浴，觀此水性了不可得，不從因生，故悟水因。

Bhadrapāla is translated as 'Worthy Guardian.' According to the Lotus Sūtra, there were two trillion Buddhas named King of Majestic Voice appearing successively in the world. In the semblance dharma age of the first Buddha, this person was among the overly proud who reviled Sadāparibhūta, and because of this fell into hell for a thousand kalpas; when his retribution ended he emerged, encountered a later King of Majestic Voice, went forth, and attained awakening. Entering the bath according to custom, he observed that the nature of this water was completely ungraspable and does not arise from causes; thus he awakened to the cause of water.
