When this contemplation first succeeded, the stage corresponded to understanding and practice. Now attaining this samādhi, he directly entered the first stage (bhūmi), named the true path of seeing. This means that with the single real, fundamental non-conceptual wisdom he merged into the dharmadhātu, subject and object being as one, without dual characteristics. Therefore the *Triṃśikā* verse says: 'When regarding the cognitive object, wisdom grasps nothing at all, at that time one abides in representation-only, because of being freed from the characteristics of the two graspers.' Precisely at that time it is first called personal realization, up until, exhausting space, the purity or defilement, existence or non-existence of the Tathāgata's lands are all manifestations transformed by my mind; therefore among the five stages it is named the stage of penetration.
