The youth Gandhahastin (Xiangyan), at leisure and in darkness during a pure fast, smelled incense entering his nose and contemplated this as non-arising, neither coming from anywhere nor going anywhere. Once the dust-breath was extinguished, the wonderful fragrance was secretly perfected. Here it is selected out by saying: the phenomenon of scent exists when in contact and is absent when apart; since it is not constant, it is not yet a perfect contemplation.
